Happy Valentines’ Day!
My exams just ended and the semester’s finally over! I’m so sorry for the huge lack of posts, I haven’t been painting my nails for really long. I’ll be updating more often now that the holidays are here (:
My nails for the first week of school! :)
I used Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects nail sticker as the base and I was inspired by the recent “glitter sandwich” nail designs to use my light pink polish to go over the sticker. I’ve also always wanted to do a Paris/Spring themed nail art post and it’s finally here! It was really hard for me to get a decent photo, I hope this is okay though :)
LEFT HAND NAILS TUTORIAL #3
What You Need:
1. A dotting tool/bobby pin
2. Toothpicks
3. Revlon Minted*
4. L.A. Girl Flushed*
5. Revlon Peach Petal*
6. Ulta 3 Watermelon* (From a drug store)
7. OPI Alpine Snow*
8. Arezia Green* (From a drug store)
*Feel free to use whatever color you like!
Step 1
Apply 3 coats of Revlon Minted. Wait until completely dry.
Step 2
Using a dotting tool*, make 6 small dots per flower (1 dot in the middle and 5 surrounding it) with L.A. Girl Flushed.
*You can use the rounded end of a bobby pin instead.
Step 3
Clean the dotting tool and make 2 dots with Revlon Peach Petal.
Step 4
Clean the dotting tool and make 1 small dot in the middle of the flower with OPI Alpine Snow.
Step 5
Clean the dotting tool and make 1 or 2 small dots in the middle with Ulta3 Watermelon.
Step 6
Using a toothpick, make small leaves with Arezia Green. You can add some streaks of OPI Alpine Snow to the leaves if you want.
To celebrate hitting 500 followers! This design was the first nail art I ever uploaded to Tumblr. Unfortunately, I hadn’t started this blog at the time and didn’t watermark the picture. It irks me whenever I see this design on someone else’s blog claiming it to be theirs >( I hope it never happens again!
LEFT HAND NAILS TUTORIAL #2
What You Need:
1. A fine brush
2. Essie Licorice*
3. White Nail Art striping brush*
4. A small piece of aluminium foil
5. Acrylic Paints in Red, White, Black and Green**
*Feel free to use whatever color you like!
**You can use nail polish, but I prefer using acrylic paints
Step 1
Apply 2 coats of Essie Licorice. Wait until completely dry.
Step 2
Squeeze out the white acrylic paint onto the aluminum foil. Using your brush, paint a rough shadow of how you want your rose to look like.
Step 3
Squeeze out a bit of red acrylic paint and clean your brush. Paint a small “c” where you want the centre of your rose to be. (This is supposed to be the bud of the rose.)
Step 4
Using the red acrylic paint, paint only certain parts of the rose. This is up to your interpretation of where the shadows fall. I would suggest using a picture of a rose as reference.
Step 5
Using the red and white acrylic paint, mix the shade of pink you want. Clean your brush before painting the rose with curved strokes.
Note: It is easier to paint thinner strokes with a clean brush.
Step 6
Squeeze out a bit of black acrylic paint and mix it with the red. This will form a darker red, but make sure not to add too much black. Clean your brush. Using this dark red, paint the edges of the petals and line the existing red shadows.
Note: It’s up to you to decide where you want to paint the streaks and this will determine the outcome of the rose.
Step 7
You can add more light pink or red wherever you like. When you are satisfied, clean your brush. Squeeze out a bit of green acrylic paint and paint the leaves. Use this step to your advantage by covering up any mistakes (such as when your rose looks too stretched out, etc.) with the leaves.
Step 8 (optional)
Using the striping brush, paint white vertical stripes. I prefer my stripes to be thicker.
Step 9
Wait for the paint to dry before adding your top coat. Do this slowly to avoid any smudging. This step is very important, especially if you are using acrylic paint, as the paint will come off without a top coat!
I’ve received quite a few requests for this and I know I’ve been procrastinating, but I hope this tutorial is helpful! It was really hard for me to explain this because I don’t have a fixed set of steps, I just do whatever I think looks nice which can take a while. I have to say that the results will never be exactly the same, so practice, practice, practice! Good luck! :)
